Cities Alliance participates at the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

COP27 is the United Nations climate change conference. Hosted by Egypt, this year's conference will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh, from 6 to 18 November. Building on COP26 Glasgow's momentum, nations are expected to demonstrate that they are ready to take action and reach the commitments of the Paris Agreement.

COP27 creates a unique opportunity for the world to come together, mend multilateralism, rebuild trust and unite at the highest political levels to address climate change.

The Egyptian presidency's vision is to move from negotiations and planning to implementation. Globally, the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events are impacting the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. Rising global average temperature and rapid global warming are causing alarming consequences for human beings and all other forms of life on earth.

In fact, the climate crisis will aggravate social, economic and environmental threats. Thus, urgent actions are needed to address the climate crisis and to strengthen the implementation of the response with the aim to create a resilient planet.

We need to harmonize our global efforts. If we are to meet our pledges and commitments words must be turned into action.

COP27 is structured within 11 thematic days in which the role of youth, civil society, and different stakeholders will be taken into consideration to ensure their full and effective engagement. Dedicated sessions will also be allocated for Africa aiming at furthering the understanding of solutions, challenges and opportunities for the continent. Similarly, the role of regional cooperation, local governments and cities will be elaborated as cross-cutting issues.

Cities Alliance will have a strong presence at the conference through a series of sessions co-hosted with members and partners.
