On August 17 2021, the Cities Alliance co-organised along with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), SEDATU and INFONAVIT a LAV (Housing Laboratory) on economic reactivation for a post-pandemic Latin America and the Caribbean.

Regional economic reactivation is the first transversal axis of action for the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in 2021. Housing is a vital topic here since it generates a substantial number of jobs and mobilizes the economy in the LAC region. However, addressing housing only as an economic issue, in isolation from the habitat and the city, can generate limited and inadequate policies to meet the real needs of people and positively impact the recovery phase.

Housing and Economic Reactivation Forum CELAC

The webinar discussed a set of experiences and knowledge on public policy guidelines in housing matters. To promote a post-Covid-19 economic recovery that allows for inclusion and socio-spatial equity and climate action in the region, three panels were presented:

  1. The current situation of the COVID-19 crisis in the LAC region: evidence and impacts on housing;
  2. Public response policies and their articulation with the private and social sectors; and
  3. Long-term perspectives in terms of housing policy and urban development.

Watch the recording below and read the concept note of the webinar (in Spanish) to know more about how housing policy can shape the economic future of the region.
