Cities and Migration regional network and dialogue in Addis Ababa and Adama, Ethiopia in partnership with the European Union.
A peer-learning event for the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF): Inclusive Urban Development and Mobility – Regional Network and Dialogue project will take place 2-3 November 2021 in Addis Ababa and Adama, Ethiopia.
The event is the second in a series of five dedicated to exchanging experiences with representatives of partner cities and community stakeholders in order to strengthen policy development for greater social cohesion. It is organized by the European Union (EU), Cities Alliance, Jigjiga Municipality, and the University of Jigjiga around the topic Mobilizing Resources: Domestic and International Frontiers for Funding and Support.
The event aims to increase the safety and well-being of displaced populations and their host communities living in urban or peri-urban settings and reduce inequalities between these groups. Its specific objective is to build and/or strengthen established regional networks and dialogue processes that will foster learning, knowledge exchange, and partnerships in two areas: a) inclusion and participation of displaced persons in the economic and social life; and b) improved livelihoods and greater access to quality basic services for refugees and vulnerable host populations in secondary cities in the Horn of Africa.
As with the first peer-learning event in Arua, Uganda in March 2021, all partnering cities will attend: Assosa and Jigjiga in Ethiopia, Kakuma-Kalobeyei in Kenya, Borama and Gabiley in Somalia, and Arua and Koboko in Uganda. Representatives of national ministries, refugee groups, and partner organizations will also participate.
The second day will include a site visit to Adama to see Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and migrant integration projects implemented by the Municipality.
The CRRF: Inclusive Urban Development and Mobility – Regional Network and Dialogue Action is financed by the EU and implemented by Cities Alliance within the framework of the European Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. Cities Alliance supports the Action through its Global Programme on Cities and Migration.
