Mexico, Migration and Cities

Webinar on 10th November 2020, 19:00-22:00 CET

Through a structured discussion, this event aims to establish the collaborative framework of a community of practices for the inclusion of migrants in the context of COVID 19 in Mexico. Intersectoral alliances will be identified, as well as the possibilities of strengthening and harmonizing regulatory frameworks, public policies and good practices of local governments.

The session consists of several shorts presentations by the organizing group and a conversation with key actors in the region. Local governments, social organizations as well as representatives of Mexican institutions of reference on the subject will be participating to understand the main challenges faced by the transit and reception municipalities of the migrant population in Mexico during the pandemic.

• ¿Cuáles son las responsabilidades en los tres ámbitos de gobierno respecto  a la protección, el respeto y la garantía del ejercicio de sus derechos? ¿Qué nuevos roles se están asumiendo con la crisis sanitaria del COVID? ¿Cómo se pueden fortalecer esas capacidades?
• ¿Cuáles son los sectores y las instituciones estratégicas con los que los municipios pueden establecer colaboraciones para atender las necesidades específicas y derechos de estas personas? ¿Existe fundamento legal para ello?
• ¿Cuáles son las buenas prácticas identificadas en el ámbito de garantizar derechos a estas personas en las ciudades mexicanas ?
• ¿Qué buenas prácticas existen encaminadas a fortalecer y armonizar los marcos normativos y las políticas públicas para garantizar los derechos de las personas migrantes  y sujetas de protección internacional en México?
