Guía de Re-aplicación del Proyecto Mujeres Seguras
This guide gives an overview of the concepts and steps for implementing the “Safe Women” project in small and medium cities. It is a valuable tool for promoting gender equity in cities -- a top priority for the Cities Alliance -- and central to the process of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.
Cities Alliance financed the Spanish translation of the guide.
The “Safe Women” project
“Safe Women” brings together representatives from civil society, local government and legislative bodies to discuss violence against women in the public space. Through a series of technical workshops, participants learn to identify different forms of violence and how advocacy strategies can be implemented to press for local policies that promote safer cities for women.
Developed by CNM (Brazilian National Confederation of Municipalities) and financed by the European Union Delegation in Brazil, the “Safe Women” project was implemented between 2014 and 2016 in 10 small and medium municipalities in northeast Brazil, the region with the lowest Human Development Index in the country.
