In Liberia, plastic use is widespread due to its practicality and low price. It is also a significant source of pollution, littering the streets and clogging drainages that help prevent flooding.

This video shows how local waste picking enterprises in Monrovia, known as Community Based Enterprises (CBEs), generate employment and improve waste management through plastic recycling. The CBEs play a key role to keep the city clean, in particular in informal settlements where no other waste picking services are provided.

The Delivering Climate Resilient Solid Waste Management Services in Greater Monrovia through Community Based Enterprises project is funded by the European Union and implemented by Cities Alliance as part of the Liberia Country Programme.
