Maximising Use Value: Action Guide for Informal Areas (PDP)
Maximising Use Value: Action Guide for Informal Areas addresses local government concerns in Greater Cairo when dealing with informal areas. It demonstrates that there are positive practices of local communities as well as potentials resulting from the urban fabric of such areas. These potentials counterbalance the problems that the local government is facing and minimise required interventions from authorities.
This user-friendly Action Guide, available in English and Arabic, proposes some practical actions to be taken by local government that capitalise on the advantages, highlighting the benefits for both the local government and the local community. It targets decision-makers at the three levels of governance (national, regional and local) and supports constructive interactions between them.
The Guide is published by the Participatory Development Programme in Urban Areas (PDP) in Egypt, an Egyptian-German development measure implemented by the Ministry of Planning as the lead executing agency and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, with financial assistance by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
