The realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) relies on strategic planning and holistic policies on the city level. Sustainable urban development remains one of the key challenges of the 21st century and cities play a vital part in addressing environmentally friendly alternatives in sectors such as energy, mobility and housing. But how can this be achieved?

How can cities adapt their policies to become more sustainable? The second session of our City Talks series will focus on local approaches to the SDGs, illustrated by the German cities of Bonn and Munich.

Keynote speech: Lorenz Gross, OECD

Commentary:  Stefan Wagner and Verena Schwarte, Department of International Affairs and Global Sustainability, City of Bonn

Followed by a discussion with:

Elisabeth Merck, Head of City Planning, Munich.

Luise Steinwachs, Deputy Chairperson of the Federal Association of Development and Humanitarian Aid NGOs (VENRO) in Germany.
