About seventy
delegates from around the world gathered in the city
of Salvador, in the Brazilian state of Bahia between
12-14 September, to share experiences at the
Workshop on "Improving Electricity Service for the Urban
Poor." The workshop was hosted by
ESMAP,
USAID,
COELBA, the
Inter-American
Development Bank (IDB), the
Cities
Alliance and
Electricité de France. The debate was framed in
the keynote address, "The Challenge of Providing
Energy Services in Low Income Urban Areas,"
delivered by Dominique Lallement, the Manager of
ESMAP.
Case studies were presented from India, Venezuela,
Georgia, Morocco, Colombia, Haiti, Brazil,
Argentina, Malawi, Vietnam, the Dominican Republic,
the Philippines and South Africa. The full report
will be posted on this website as soon as it becomes
available.
