The seventh Cities Alliance Public Policy Forum
was held in
Washington DC on
Tuesday November 28, 2006. Focusing on
the theme, "Environment,
Poverty and Development in and Urbanizing World",
the event featured presentations by Kai Lee and Danielle Nierenberg of the Worldwatch
Institute, Mary Jane Ortega of the World Mayors
Council on Climate Change and Solly Angel, Professor
of Urban Planning at New York University. Case
studies highlighted urban upgrading activities in
Salvador da Bahia (Brazil) and the Mumbai (India)
transformation process.
The Public Policy Forum is traditionally held in
conjunction with the annual meetings of the Cities
Alliance Consultative Group and engages city
practitioners, national government representatives,
development partners and the research community to
discuss challenges and opportunities of an
urbanizing world. This year's Consultative Group
Meetings were held from November 29 to December 1,
2006.
