Ursula Schaefer-Preuss, Vice President of the
Asian
Development Bank, a Cities Alliance member,
writes in The Daily Yomiuri that despite
concerns surrounding the growth of mega-cities, poor
Asians benefit from the services cities provide.
Schaefer-Preuss sees benefits in urbanization and
argues that with partnerships and planning,
megacities can offer the poor a standard of living
that parallels that of industrialized countries in
the 20th century.
