Bertrand Delanoë , World President of UCLG, Re-elected Mayor of Paris


Bertrand Delanoë, World President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) was re-elected as Mayor of Paris for a second term on March 21 2008. This was the result of the second round of municipal elections in France and where Mr. Delanoë got close to 58 percent of the votes.

The Municipal elections also resulted in the re-election of a number of the members of the UCLG governing bodies, namely: Jean Marc Ayrault, Mayor of Nantes; Martine Aubry, Mayor of Lille; Bruno Bourg Broc, Mayor of Châlons-en-Champagne; Gérard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon; Michel Delebarre, Mayor of Dunkerque; Jean-Claude Gaudin, Mayor of Marseille; Michel Destot, Mayor of Grenoble; Alain Juppe, Mayor of Bordeaux; Didier Paillard, Mayor of Saint Denis; André Rossinot, Mayor of Nancy; Antoine Rufenacht, Mayor of Havre. The city Strasburg has elected a new Mayor, Roland Ries, and Rodez has elected Christian Teyssedre.

Two Deputy Mayors who are deeply committed to UCLG have not only had their mandates renewed but have also had their responsibilities increased: Pierre Schapira, Deputy Mayor of Paris is now responsible for international relations, European and Francophone affairs and Jean-Michel Daclin, Deputy Mayor de Lyon is responsible for international affairs, European affairs and tourism.
