UN-HABITAT is hosting the Fifth Session of the World Urban Forum -- themed "The Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide" -- in March of this year, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The World Urban Youth Assembly (formerly known as the World Urban Youth Forum) takes place March 19 and 20, immediately preceding the Forum. It is the premier platform for youth to articulate their ideas, concerns and contributions to the urban agenda and is expected to draw 400 dynamic youth representatives from across the globe, a fitting event for 2010 as our "Year of Youth".
The Partners & Youth Branch of UN-HABITAT, together with key stakeholders, is presently organising a variety of innovative and exciting dialogue sessions to take place at the World Urban Youth Assembly, on themes including child- and youth-friendly cities, inclusion and exclusion of youth in cities, peacebuilding, the digital divide, the arts and social change, access to affordable housing, and other topics.
This year's Youth Roundtable, a component of the main World Urban Forum and one of the highlights of our youth-related activities, will be on the topic of Youth, Sports, Peace and development. The 2010 Youth Assembly will also see the launch of a special supplement to the State of the World Cities Report, entitled "Leveling the Playing Field: Inequality of Youth Opportunity."
