The Municipal Finance Task Force (MFTF)


Objectives of the Municipal Finance Task Force is to:

  • Identify ways to increase the flow of long term private capital to developing cities in support of their slum upgrading and city development strategies.

  • Serve as a focal point for collecting the experience and views of international experts on municipal finance and private capital mobilization for use in formulating practical guidance to multilateral and bilateral donors, international local government associations, national and city governments.

The MFTF is designed to consolidate the “best of the best” thinking to give practical guidance to city managers and other government officials who wish to develop and use local capital markets for municipal investments.

MFTF Outputs:

  • Guidance Papers;

  • Case studies that highlight and analyze finance models used by specific cities, countries or transactions;

  • Collect existing case studies which will be reviewed and published by members of Cities Alliance;

  • Municipal Finance Toolkits;

  • MFTF website to act as both a clearing house of existing municipal finance resources and a communications hub for on-line discussions between finance professionals.
